Brian Metcalf
Fisherman of the Year 2000
March
2001

Message from the President:

Well guys, another month has come and gone and Lake Seminole is behind us with Lake Martin coming up. Isn't fishing fun? The raffle and auction at the March 21st meeting brought in $147.00, bringing the "Top Six" fund to a grand total of $457.00. The funds generated at the April 18th meeting will be the last for the current Top Six Team. After the raffle and auction in April the total proceeds will be presented to the Top Six team. SO BE THERE. See history in the making for the Pensacola Hawg Hunters Bass Club. Remember, the Top Six represent the Hawg Hunters Bass Club. So lets all pitch in and give them all the support and help we can. GO HAWG HUNTERS!!!
Question: How many casts do you make in an hour when you are fishing a tournament? Be honest with yourself, deduct time spent during the hour for eating, goofing off, taking a whizz, drinking pop, changing lures, worming, etc.. After all that, in the time left in that hour how many times do you think you cast that lure. The moral of this quiz is this: The man who makes the most casts and keeps his line in the water the most is the man with the greatest chance of success. We will be showing the second of the Glen Lau bass films starting at 6:15 pm at the April meeting. Until then,
be good, be safe, be sportsman.
"See you on the water"

Wally

The March tournament was held on Lake Seminole out of the State Park Landing. There were 25 Hawg Hunters present to fish at safe daylight. The air temperature was in the mid 60's, the skies were clear for Saturday. The water level was high and muddy in the rivers and crystal clear in Fish Pond Drain, Spring Creek and Four Foot Ditch. Everyone had great expectations for the day at hand. There was a lot of running and plugging going on. At weigh- in their were 16 fish weighed in for a total of 33.85 lbs.

Mack Cramer had just about called it a day when he made a lucky cast and ended up with the days lunker weighing in at 5.40 lbs, this also gave Mack first place going into Sunday. Mitch Gardner and Dwayne Mills brought in a few fish and tied for second place with 4.65 lbs, Jere Jaillite brought three fish to the scales for a total of 4.40 lbs and John Buck brought in a good fish to give him 4.15 lbs to round out the leader board for Saturday. March Tournament:

Sunday we were greeted with cloudy skies and a good chance of rain for the day. It didn't take long for the skies to open up and let some of that precipitation fall. There were 30 fish brought to the scales for a total of 49.85 lbs. It was Brian Metcalf who had found some bedding fish the day before that would come in with the only limit and the heaviest stringer of the tournament. Brian had a weight of 6.75 lbs. Mitch Gardner and Kevin Simmons teamed up to bring to nice stringers of four fish each for 5.80 lbs and 5.75 lbs respectively. Terry Smith made a strong surge with three fish for 5.25 lbs.

After all the adding was done it was Mitch Gardner that had a two day total of 10.45 lbs that would take home first place. Brian's strong finish gave him second place with 7.70 lbs. John Buck brought a two pound fish to the scales on Sunday to give him a two day total of 6.20 lbs and third place. Fred Raby brought in the lunker for the day weighing in at 3.70 lbs to give him a total weight of 5.80 lbs which was good enough for fourth place. Great job fishing to everyone.
