Fisherman of the Year 2000
February

Message from the President:

Would you believe it - another windy tournament day. Makes four in a
row. Hopefully Lake Seminole will do better for us this year. The raffle and auction at the February meeting netted $125.00 thanks to 100% participation by the members present. To date we've only had one member not participate. Don't know about you but I had a hilarious time at the last meeting, as did a lot of the members. The "TOP SIX FUND" now stands at $310.00 and going to get better. Got some good stuff coming up for the March meeting i.e., reels, coins, rod rack, and so on. Don't miss it. I know the "TOP SIX TEAM" appreciates your help and as I've said before, it can only cost you a buck or two once a month. So what about it - lets keep the participation going.
The "TOP SIX FUND" will
be presented to the team at the April meeting. So lets make sure all of
the TEAM members are present to recieve these funds and our best wishes for the upcoming "Tournament of Champions". Remember, the Pensacola Hawg Hunters are the defending champions thanks to last years Top Six Team and Dave Dyess who won the "Individual Championship". Until the March 21st meeting be thinking good weather for Lake Seminole during our tounament on March 24th and 25th. Until then, be good, be safe, and be good sportsman. See you on the water.

P.S............45 minutes before the meeting on March 21st I will run a 45 minute video tape
(TV and VCR will be available) called "Big Mouth" filmed by Glen Lau. If you have not seen this tape you owe it yourself to be there. Its a must for all bass fishermen regardless of experience level. See how a bass can inhale a crankbait or a spinnerbait and the angler not even know it, plus so much more about bass habits. Its a great tape and you might learn something new, or it may remind you of something you forgot. So be at the meeting 45 minutes early and watch "Big Mouth" with the rest of us.....See you then.........

Wally

Minutes of the Meeting:

The February 2001 meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at 7:00 p.m. on February 21, 2001. The meeting was held at the Seafood Shanty on Hwy 29 and was presided over by President Wally Cassiano. There were 27 members present and one guest.

Old Business:

The Banquet was a great success, everyone had a great time. Thanks goes out to everyone that helped. The Tournament of Champions will be held on May 5th out of Live Oak Landing. The alternate date will be May 19th. The Top Six consisting of Brian Metcalf, Mack Cramer, Dave Dyess, Neil Springstead, Lee Brannon, and John Buck will attend.
Your support at the tournament would greatly be appreciated. Lake Seminole and Lake Martin tournaments are coming up in March and April, don't forget to make your reservations. Rooms are going quick. NASCAR will be in Talledaga the same weekend that we will be at Lake Martin.

New Business:

Wally had a plethora of things to raffle and auction off this month. John Buck won the pecans, Kevin Simmons won the color selector, Lee Brannon won the socket set, and Jim Bailey Sr. won the coins. The auction became pretty heated when Kevin Simons and Kevin Holland kept out bidding each other. Kevin Simmons finally put in a final bid of $45 for the reel and bottle of champagne.
Kevin Holland decided that he wasn't going to be out bided again and took home the knife, final word, and bottle of wine for a bid of $25. Fred Raby decided that he needed a new Ranger cap to go with his Ranger boat by putting in a bid of $9. If you have anything that you would like to donate to the raffle, please contact Wally. Wally also has gold cap hooks for sale ( 2 for $1). The Top Six fund is growing well, thanks to everyone for all your support.
There are new club hats available for $13.There is a total of $420 in the "BooRay" pot for a 6 lb bass. Mack is doing boat and trailer repairs for anyone that is interested. PJC is holding an open house CPR on the 28th of April.

February Tournament:

The February tournament was held on the Tensaw River out of Hubbard's Landing. There were 26 Hawg Hunters and one guest present to fish at safe daylight. The air temperature was in the upper 50's, the skies were cloudy. The water level was high and out of its banks in a lot of areas.

February Tournament:

The Assistant Tournament Director called out the names and the field split up with half going up towards Stiggins and Globe and the other half headed towards Dennis and McRenolyds. At weigh-in their were 19 fish for a total of 36.55 lbs. It was Neil Springstead who would come in with the lunker for the day weighing in at 5.50 lbs and two other bass to go with it for a winning weight of 9.10 lbs.

Brian Metcalf bounced back from last tournament and brought in 4 bass weighing in at 7.75 lbs, which was good enough for second place. Wally Cassiano went back to his staging bass and brought 2 to the scales for 3.30 lbs. Way to go Wally to top three finishes in a row. The females are staging for the on coming spawn and are very much full of eggs. Terry Smith came in fourth weighing in one fish at 2.90 lbs. Charles Cetti and Rich Cornelius tied for fifth with 2.60 lbs to round out the top six. Congratulations goes to Neil Springstead who brought home the win. Neil had a slow start with no fish for the first two tournaments, but is coming up strong with a nice win. Great job fishing to everyone.
