October
2001

Message from the President:

The 2001 tournament year has come and gone and the new tournament year begins with the November meeting. Where did you finish up last year? Now is the time to set your goals for next year. Where do you want to be in the standings?
PAGE TWO;
The E- Board will be meeting in the next week or so to set up the 2002 Tournament Site schedule. Its not an easy task as many of you know. Did you submit your recommendations for tournament sites? You should have. The new schedule should be ready for the November meeting.
PAGE THREE;
To those members who have not paid their dues yet (there are several) I remind you again,

DUES MUST BE PAID NOT LATER THAN THE NOVEMBER MEETING OR YOU WILL BE DROPPED FROM MEMBERSHIP.

Please don't let this happen to you. We do have a great bunch of guys in the club and we sure don't want to lose any of you. Sooooooo
PAY YOU DUES - keep those lines tight - See you on the water. ..........Wally

P.S. Remember the meeting date change for November -- We meet on the SECOND WEDNESDAY i.e. November 14th, and the tournament is on Saturday the 17th. Pass the word, please.

Minutes of the Meeting:

The October 2001 (Last one of the 2001 fishing season) meeting of the Pensacola Hawg Hunters was brought to order at 7:00 p.m. on October 17, 2001. The meeting was held at the Seafood Shanty on Hwy 29 and was presided over by President Wally Cassiano. There were 27 members and two guests (Chris Malena, Ron Fairbanks) present.

Old Business:

Everyone had a great time at the Fish Fry that was held at Lake Eufaula, thanks to all for the help.

New Business:

Your Annual Dues are overdue. Please remember the Constitution and By-Laws, Article II, Section 4, Paragraph a: Dues are due and payable at the October meeting for the following year.
Any member that hasn't paid his dues by the November meeting will be removed from membership and must reapply and fish a guest tournament. The following members need to pay their dues: Stacy Blackburn, Dave Dyess, Mitch Gardner, Kevin Holland, Frank Kelly, Jack Maher, Kevin Simmons, Terry Smith, and Mike Tyson.
The annual banquet is proposed for the second weekend in January. Please remember to make your reservations early for any tournament site that will require you to stay overnight.

There is currently $1245 in the "Fish-Off" and $908 in the "Boo- Ray" pot.

The election of the officers went as follows: President - Wally Cassiano, VicePresident/Treasure - Kevin Simmons, Secretary - Dwayne Mills, Tournament Director - Neil Springstead, Assistant Tournament Director Mack Cramer. This is the E- Board for the 2002 fishing season. A job well done goes to the 2001 E- Board.
The Constitution and By-Law changes that are going to be implemented are as follows:

1
) Tournament Rule 5 will read as follows: Partners will be chosen by random draw conducted by the Tournament Director. It is each man's responsibility to notify both the Tournament Director and his partner if he is unable to participate, giving as much advance notice as possible. Each boat will contain two contestants. However, a club member will be allowed to fish alone if pairing of two club members would not allow a potential member to fish his guest tournament, or an odd number of participants exists.

New Business:

2) Fish-Off Tournament Rule 4 will read as follows: There will be two payouts in the October tournament. The regular club tournament and a "Fishoff" pay out which will include all moneys earmarked from regular monthly tournaments and a draw down of the club treasury as follows: After the September tournament the E-Board will meet to review the club treasury. They will set aside enough money from the general fund to pay all existing expenses, and anticipated expenses for the remainder of the year to include banquet and awards for year-end. To those anticipated expenses they will add a $150.00 budget allowance to maintain in the
club treasury. All remaining general funds will then be added to the "Fishoff pot".

This months lucky winners for the raffle were Terry Smith -Field Glasses, Jim Bailey Jr. - Rattle Traps, Terry Smith - Crankbaits, Cliff Armstrong - Clock Radio, Jack Maher - Pliers, Fred Raby -Drill Grinders, Randy Cole - Lock, Jeff Weaver - Radio, and Cliff Armstrong - Microwave Storage Set.

As for this months auction Jim Bailey Sr. out bid everyone for a fish pillow, Paul Sullivan and Brian Metcalf each got a Microwave Storage Set, and Tony Boyette and Paul Sullivan each got a rod. Thanks goes out to everyone that donated items for the auction.

October Tournament:

The October tournament was held at Apalachicola River out of Breakaway Landing. Saturday started at safe daylight. Saturday morning was quite a bit warmer than the morning before, it was in the lower 60's instead of the mid 50's. The skies were partly cloudy, temperatures rose into the low 80's by midday and there was a moderate breeze. The water temperature ranged from 68 - 72 degrees. Fred Raby came to the scales with the only limit of five fish for the weekend to take first place on day one with 5.70 lbs.(Rumor has it that he was fishing down south, because his fishing partner, Neil Springstead, was working on catching the Florida state record Red Drum.) Dwayne Mills brought in two fish with one of them being the lunker for the day weighing in at 4 lbs and a total weight of 5.40 lbs. which was good enough for second place. Brian Metcalf came in a close third weighing in four fish for 5.30 lbs. We had one member that made the mistake of not measuring his fish correctly, which cost him his big fish for the day. Sunday at safe daylight was even warmer than the day before, everyone had high hopes of filling their livewells. As the day turned out, it was a very tough day of fishing for everyone. The wind picked up a little which made fishing any open water next to impossible. As usual, Brian Metcalf found four more fish and the lunker of the day weighing 2.95 lbs with a total weight of 6.80 lbs. Mitch Gardner was able to bring three fish to the scales for 4.15 lbs. Pete Potter brought in two fish weighing 3.25 lbs.

October Tournament:

After all the adding was done it was Brian Metcalfthat brought home yet another win with a total weight of 12.10 lbs. Brian has had a great year and is very consistent with his fishing and earned the well deserved Fisherman on the Year trophy. Mitch Gardner and Dwayne Mills teamed up to take second and third with 8.05 lbs and 7.85 lbs respectively. Great season and fishing goes out to everyone. Brian Metcalf took home the Fisherman of the Year trophy for the second year in a row. The rest of the top six fell as follows: Mitch Gardner finished second; fishing as a non- boater all year long, Rich Cornelius - third, Mack Cramer - fourth, Jere Jaillite - fifth, and WallyCassiano - sixth. Congratulations to this years "Top Six". We will be starting a new fishing season on November 17th. Good luck.
