December Tournament:

The December tournament was held on the Escambia River out of the Swamphouse Landing. There were 24 Hawg Hunters and 1 guest present to fish at safe daylight. The air temperature was in the mid 60's and reached the mid 70's as the day wore on, the skies were partly cloudy. The wind was out of the Northeast at about 10 mph and laid down to about 5 mph as the day went on. The Tournament Director handed the duties of blasting everyone off to Jere Jaillite and Wally Cassiano since they were the last boat out. At safe daylight Jere blasted 13 boats off in traditional Hawg Hunter style. Everyone had high hopes of catching a few bass. Just about all Hawg Hunters had done some pre-fishing and there were mixed results throughout the members. There were two boats that decided there was better fishing on the other side of the bay in the Blackwater River, and made the run around Garcon Point. At weigh-in there were alot of heads hanging because of the tough day of fishing that was upon us, but one thing is good for sure and that was that Jack Maher was at the weigh- in to greet everyone. Thanks for being there Jack, everyone is behind you. Once the scales closed there were 31 fish brought to the scales for a total of 33.65 lbs.

It was Brian Metcalf who would come in with four fish and the winning weight of 4.60 lbs. Brian stayed on the Escambia River all day and caught his fish on jigs and floating worms. Dwayne Mills found three fish for 3.50 lbs which was good enough for second place. Dwayne caught all his fish on the Blackwater river on hard jerk baits. Wally Cassiano also found three fish for 3.25 lbs, which put him in third place. Rumor has it that Wally caught all of his fish down low on the Escambia River on Texas rigged worms.

Tournament Standings:

John Buck brought in three fish that weighed 2.95 lbs for fourth place, Mitch Gardner, using his confidence bait, brought two fish to the scales weighing in at 2.80 lbs which took fifth place and Jere Jaillite with two fish weighing 2.25 lbs rounded out the top six. Fred Raby brought in the lunker for the day weighing in at 1.90 lbs, this was the second tournament in a row that Fred brought in the lunker, great job Fred. Wally Cassiano and Jere Jaillite came in first as far as the boats went with a combined weight of 5.50 lbs and Rich Cornelius and Dwayne Mills came in second with 5.20 lbs. Congratulations goes to Brian Metcalf who has yet won another one. Great job fishing to everyone. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
