New Business (Continued):

Also, please ensure that you have the tools needed to complete the task at hand. A few dollars spent now can save you from a huge headache and hours of frustration. Safety for all club members is a large concern and everyone should always think safety. Eye protection from the sun, wind and rain, is very important. When running from the launch early in the morning or from different areas throughout the day we must use our eye protection to protect our eyes. This months lucky winners for the raffle were Brian Metcalf -Tube Baits, Kevn Simmons - Hat, Paul Sullivan - Crankbaits, Tim McCormick - Rattle Traps, Rich Cornelius - Crankbaits, and Cliff Armstrong - Worms. As for this months auction Wally again brought in quite a few items. Where does he get all of this stuff? Thank you, Wally for getting everything and the amount of effort you put into the "Special Fund". Lee Brannon out bid everyone for a bottle of Champagne, Brian Metcalf and Tony Boyett each got a travel bag Dwayne Mills received some Rattle Traps, and Rich Cornelius got a hat.

January Tournament:

The January tournament was held on the Tensaw River out of the Cliff's Landing. There were 23 Hawg Hunters and 2 guests present to fish at safe daylight. The air temperature was in the mid 50's and reached the mid 70's as the day wore on, the skies were completely overcast and there was a 50 percent chance of rain for the day. The wind was out of the South at about 10 mph and picked up to about 25 mph as the day went on until the front passed through. At safe daylight 13 boats blasted off in traditional Hawg Hunter style. Everyone had high hopes of catching a few bass. Just about all Hawg Hunters had done some pre-fishing and there were mixed results throughout the members, with a few members catching many numbers of fish down low. With the overcast weather and the front on the way everyone thought there would be many fish brought to the scales. The rain started falling about midday and didn't let up till about weigh-in time. Once the scales closed there were 47 fish brought to the scales for a total of 65.25 lbs.

It was Mack Cramer who would come in with a nice limit of fish and the winning weight of 9.00 lbs. Mack ran down river and probably caught all of his fish on a June Bug finesse worm. Fred Raby and Mitch Gardner were teamed up and ran up river to pick up there two limits of fish on crankbaits and worms. Fred grabbed second with 8.55 lbs and missed catching the big fish for the third tournament in row by one tenth of a pound. Mitch came up with fourth place with 6.30 lbs.
Neil Springstead came in with the only other limit of fish, he caught on worms, that weighed 6.50 lbs.

January Tournament:

Cliff Armstrong, fishing by himself, ended up beating out Fred's big bass with his 2.70 pounder and a total weight of his three fish for 4.70 lbs which was good enough for fifth place. Congratulations Cliff on the big fish for the tournament. Jeff Weaver rounded out the top six with 3 fish weighing in at 3.85 lbs. Slow presentation seemed to be the key to catching fish for this tournament. Remember it is not always a pattern that wins a tournament. As far as the boat bet goes, it was Fred Raby and Mitch Gardner that had a combined weight of 14.85 lbs and a second and fourth place finish that put a whooping on everyone. I definitely have to give it to Fred for finding those fish. Great job Fred and Mitch. Mack I am sorry but you can't be in the boat bet unless both people catch fish, great job fishing anyway. For second place in the boat bet it was a tight race but I have to give it to John Buck and Paul Sullivan. They didn't have the most combined weight, but both members finished back to back. Congratulations goes to Mack Cramer, good luck in the hunt for the Fisherman of the Year. Great job fishing to everyone.
