Old Buisness:

A big Ooh-Rah Thank you to Mack for his Super bowl party and his overly generous supply of chicken parts. The E-board met the week before the February club meeting and specifically discussed - Dead fish: When Dave Dyess is at the tournament he will take all of the dead fish with him, please tell him if you have a fish that has been dead all day. If he is not there we will have large garbage bags available to put them in to deliver to a dumpster, DO NOT put dead fish back into the lake/river. Hat/Shirt points - the system put into place at December's meeting. Basically the honor system - you must declare at the weigh in to the secretary or whoever is recording weights, whether or not you wore both all day. If you do not declare the assumption will be that you did not and will not get the point. March Tournament club event - Dave Dyess has offered to bring his fish fryer and cook up a big batch of fish and hush puppies at the Miller's Ferry Tournament on Saturday night. Everyone should be prepared to pitch in $3 - $5 to cover the costs.

New Buisness:

The El Rancho Inn at Apalachicola has increased their rates to $95 per night. There was some discussion concerning an alternate place to stay with cheaper rates but they could only guarantee 3 rooms so we (as a club) decided to all stay together at the same rate.
Jim Bailey Sr. is looking for input to put on the redesigned web site, anyone with ideas zip them to him in an email. There is a new tackle shop on Cervantes called Dizzy Lizzies, they carry mostly salt water gear but would be willing to start stocking more freshwater stuff if the demand was great enough, might be worth checking out. There is also a tackle shop that has some "antique tackle," it is Lost Key at the corner of Blue Angel and Dog Track rd. The most recent rumor about the Bass Pro Shop at Spanish Fort was stopped due to locating an ancient Indian burial ground…new information has revealed it ain't so. This is the link to the latest information on the construction.

February Tournament:

The morning started out looking pretty nice, the forecast was for high winds, 20 - 30 mph. When we launched it was a nice and mild ~ 45 degrees and not windy at all. But that was short lived, around 7:30 the wind started kicking up. By mid day the water was sure enough getting rough, especially out on the main river. Me and my partner tried some Carolina riggin' but it was just too windy and we headed for some more protected waters. It was one of those days that if you happened to pick the right spot and found some fish and it was out of the wind then that was the place to spend the day.

1st Place
Mack Cramer

That was Mack's strategy and it worked out well for him. The creek he picked produced quite a few keepers and with the wind building stronger and stronger as the day wore on he decided to stay there.

2nd Place
Dave Dyess

Dave Dyess didn't let the wind bother him as he went to his #1 hole and stayed the day. Dave was able to take 2nd place with 5 fish to boot. It was overcast the entire day but fortunately it did not start raining.
Unfortunately for Dan Nash, winning the 50/50 raffle did not have the same effect on his fishing as it did last month for John Buck. Overall not too terribly bad of a day, better than Blackwater but not as good as our last trip to the Tensaw in December when we launched from Scott's and caught 7 limits and almost 60 lbs of fish. Our catch this time was a little more than half that with 35 lbs.

3rd Place
Brian Metcalf

This was Brian's first tournament with us this year and he jumped back in with a bang with a 3rd place win, plus bringing in the lunker of the day, and winning the big fish pot.

4th Place
Pete Potter

Brian didn't leave much on the table after weigh in but Pete Potter wasn't going to be out done. Pete was was able to squeek out 4th place with 3 fish and 3.10 lbs.
Next month will be our first 2 day tournament of the year on Miller's Ferry and we will be having a fish fry on Saturday evening - Thank you in advance to Dave Dyess.
