Message From The President:

Hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day. I also hope everyone took a few moments from their traditional Memorial Day activities to reflect on the sacrifices made by the brave men and women of the Armed Forces to protect this great country and it's causes. If you didn't,
I encourage you to do that now. Looks like summer is here and so are our shortened tournaments. Don't forget that June, July, and August are early weigh-in's. With summer and our early weigh-in's also comes the need to stay hydrated. That means water, water, and more water.
It's also a good idea to carry a small towel that you can dip in the cooler water and apply to your neck for a quick cool down. I've also found that taking one of those small freezer packs and placing it under my Hawg Hunter cap actually cools my whole body down. Try it and you'll see.
This next little bit is for those Hawg Hunters that we haven't heard from for some time. We miss you guys and really would like to see you at the next meeting. If you can't make it, give me or one of the E-board members a call. We would love to hear from you. Wow, did you realize that we are more than half way through the fishing year! You know what that means….. That's right,
the E-board will be looking for potential nominees for next year's
E-board pretty soon. Please give it a serious thought when called. It really isn't that difficult. Well……..most of the time anyway. The end of the year also means that we will be voting on proposed changes to the constitution and by-laws, tournament rules, and fish-off rules. I know many of you have already been putting your thoughts together. Well, that's about all I have for this month. Keep your lines in the water and out of the trees.

Minutes of the Meeting:

The May Pensacola Hawg Hunters meeting was brought to order at 7:00 P.M. on May 16, 2007 at Founaris Brothers Restaurant. President Kevin Simmons presided. There were 19 members present.

Old Buisness:

Kevin discussed the steak cookout last month at Apalachicola.
Dave Dyess mentioned he is having a grill built for the club to use for these cookouts. The total spent from the special fund for the cookout for salad and potatoes was $34.
Kevin has been under the weather and was unable to call the members that have been missing but is adamant he will before the next meeting.
Jim Bailey Sr. mentioned that Rick Bankston is a new addition to his web page. Also, individual river reports will be launched soon on Jim's website.
Kevin also discussed recruiting for non-boaters and solicited any ideas.

New Buisness:

Pretty slim this meeting…there was just some discussion about the parking at the boat ramp at Black Creek which led to discussion about what time to get there to launch because there is another club tournament there at the same time.

May Tournament:

A little bit of a front pushed through on Thursday evening which was just enough to make the fishing a little challenging. Enough so that there were not any limits hauled in. Not really any big fish to speak of either so the Boo Ray pot is still safe and growing. I can personally attest to the fact that until the boat is on the trailer anything can happen. My partner cranked up his smooth running Yamaha powered Ranger to do just that but thankfully he decided to shut down and fish a little along the bank around the no wake sign. Until then I had not boated a keeper. I had only managed to catch a limit of short fish including one that probably would have bumped if I had given him a fat lip. Then the fishing miracle happened…I hung my plastic worm on a sitck up just like most of my casts had during the last couple of hours fishing, but this time while I was trying to pop it off of the stick a bass decided to help me and jumped on my hook knocking it off the stick up and letting me boat my first keeper of the day; it was 3:41 still enough time for a few more casts and just a couple casts later another keeper helped wipe my name off of the "also fished" list. Then it was time to head to the ramp. Most everyone I have been fishing with during the past year and a half keep saying don't give up just keep throwing, you never know what may happen…and now it has for me.

4th Place
Ken Repine

Speaking of being persistent, Ken Repine hit pay dirt with his catch putting him in 4th place, Congratulations Ken! Pete Potter who has consistently placed in the top five in the past 5 tournaments stumbled just a little but his overall point lead only lost a couple of points because Mr. Bailey Sr. also had a rough day on the water.

3rd Place
Lee Brannon

Lee Brannon moved up to 2nd place overall with his 3rd place showing.

2nd Place
Dave Dyess

Dave Dyess also moved up a spot to 3rd with his consistent fish catching skill.

1st Place
Mack Cramer

Mack Cramer is steadily cutting into Pete's point lead by winning 3 of the last 4 tournaments. We are half way through the season and the top 6 are starting to separate themselves a little bit from the rest of us…but as I said before…you never know what might happen. But let's all remember the points just make it interesting, it's the fun of getting out and doing it that should be the real focus. Sure we all would like to win because we are all competitors but I say let's just l keep getting together as a club and enjoy each other's company (and bad jokes) as much as we can.
Until next month
Stay safe and invite someone to come out fishing with us, they just might decide they like it.
