Old Buisness:

Mr. John Knight from the Florida State Fish and Wildlife Conservation Research Institute gave an hour long presentation on the Bass population of the Northwest Florida and Mobile delta areas.
Some of the high lights included:

· Studies show that it takes the Bass in the tidal areas approximately three years to reach a 12 inch legal limit.

· Larger fish, four pounds and up have declined in these areas and seem to have almost disappeared in some areas.

· Fish in the tidal areas seem to be able to withstand saltwater up to approximately 12%. Normal salt range in these areas is only 3%.

· There is no evidence that fish move up or down the river systems to escape salt levels.

· Largest food source is crabs, followed by fish (shad, minnows, etc…) and shrimp.

A Little Salt:

To all my friends who sent me best wishes in 2007 or promises of good luck.
It Did Not Work.
For 2008 could you just send either money, chocolates, or gas vouchers.
Thank You!!!!

New Buisness:

Congratulations to Bob Hanson the newest member or re-member (if that is a word) to the Hawg Hunters.

REMINDER
The next meeting is on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, March 19th but the March tournament has been moved to the last weekend of March, 29th and 30th as a result of Easter weekend. This was decided in a vote at the December meeting.

February Tournament:

Clearly the club secretary has his priorities all mixed up and was unable to attend yet another tournament therefore has no first hand information regarding the tournament. I could write a nice flowery little story here about how relaxing and therapeutic is was to be out on the water on such a nice day. Mild temperature with a gentle breeze blowing with the fish biting practically everything that was thrown in the water. But…then everyone would be thinking…"step away from the crack pipe"….

So here are the standings for the tournament which is what everyone wants to see anyway.

1st Place
Dave Dyess

2 nd Place
Jeff Weaver

3rd Place
Lee Brannon

~Know Your Hawgs~

Say hello to Jim Bailey Jr.
He's the one in the photo with his mouth closed. Jim is a past member of the Hawg Hunters and is sponsored back in by his dad Jim Sr.
Jim said he is tired of paying all those big bucks for gas to fish the gulf and not catch any fish .... Said he could catch just as few on the rivers and save money.
