October Tournament:

The October Hawg Hunter tournament and End of the Year Fish-Off was held Saturday and Sunday October 18 and 19 on the Apalachicola River.
Launch was at the Henry Abercrombie Jr. Boat Landing on Pine Log Road.
Eight boats participated in this month's tournament with only ten of the anglers eligible for the End of Year Fish Off.
The six remaining fishermen were only eligible for the regular October Tournament.
After everything was said and done Sunday Bill Myrick captured 1st place with 10 fish and 13.74 lbs.
Ron Fairbanks took 2nd place with 10 fish and 13.34 lbs.
Mack Cramer weighted in a total of 10 fish with a nice rounded off number of 13.00 lbs but couldn't quite catch enough to capture the Fisherman of the year award from John Buck. That race was a cliff hanger until the end of the day.
Dave Dyess just did snatch victory out of the jaws of Frank Kelly with a nice catch of 10 fish and 12.66 lbs. Frank ended up with 12.49 lbs. Here's wishing you better luck for the new year Frank.
Big fish for the tournament was Dave Bock "Not Dave Brock Jeff" with a keeper at 2.61 lbs. Not standard weight criteria for the Apalachicola River.
Bob Hanson can stop sweating bullets now for the Big Fish of the year trophy.

The Presidents Dinner:

The high light of the fish-off has become the annual Presidents dinner. This year was no exception. The out going President John Buck, recruited the incoming President, and the 2008 Angler of the Year to assist him in being the chief chef. The three individuals worked together flawlessly and at times seemed as if a single entity was at work on the barbeque grill. John and his crew's effort at grilling the steaks was nothing short of superb. With Dave Dyess providing the leg work in getting the steaks, potatoes, salad, and the fix'ens that go with them the dinner was one to remember. A thank you to Bill Myrick who provided the fruit tray that was enjoyed by all.

Special Note:

Angler of the Year

Going into the Fish-Off the past several years the coveted title of Angler of the Year had been up for grabs with several Hawg Hunters vying for the title. This past year however, it seemed that the title was pretty well sewed up entering the Fish-Off. We couldn't have been more wrong. Going into the tournament John Buck was leading Mack Cramer by 12 points, a lead that seemed insurmountable. However, nobody told Mack that the competition was over. By a herculean effort, Mack was able to put together two days of fishing that made up those 12 points to move into a tie with John. For the first time in club history the Angler of the Year ended with two members tied for first place and the tie breaker system as spelled out in the clubs tournament rules was brought into play. For having weighted in more legal fish, John Buck won the Angler of the year Award, but congratulations need to go out to both John and Mack for a great eleventh hour effort.
