September Tournament:

September found the Hawg Hunters returning to the Alabama River out of Prattville Alabama. Although this was our second trip there in as many years, it was our first time out of Swift Creek. At blast off 12 members and one guest (Dave Bock, who is also a returning member) went in search of the elusive black bass. After persevering the past several months with the hot and humid summer weather our hopes for cooler temperatures and hotter fishing were realized. Morning temperatures in the mid-sixties barely reached into the low eighty by mid-day. Although windy, the day was one of those that made putting up with the summer heat worthwhile. Not only did the cooler weather affect the fishermen but it seemed to have affected the fish as well. At weigh in all thirteen fishermen weighed in fish, with three limits and four others with 4 fish. In total 45 fish and 68.03 pounds were brought to the scales. Jeff Weaver led the first day pack with 9.29 lbs, followed by Tony Boyett with 6.92 lbs, which included the first day lunker of 3.58 lbs. Third place was claimed by Dave Dyess with 6.18 lbs, while Bill Myrick was close behind with 6.13 lbs for fourth place. It should be noted however, that if our guest could have competed in the club tournament, he would have been in third place with 5 fish weighing in at 6.63 lbs.
As on most of our two day tournaments, Saturday night was hi-lighted by a fish fry, fellowship, and a little white lie or two. A special thanks to Dave Dyess, Lee Brannon, and everyone else who pitched in to make the fish fry a great success.
The mild weather held for the second day's blast off and our intrepid fishermen once again tested their skills against the wily black bass. At the second day weigh-in, 11 fishermen brought a total of 34 fish weighing 48.94 lbs. to the scales. Leading the second days pack was John Buck with a limit weighing 12.40, including the tournament lunker of 3.82 lbs, which was good enough to move John into first place with a two day total of 17.79 lbs. Jeff Weaver also brought a limit weighing 6.55 for a total of 15.84 lbs to claim second place. Third place went to Jere Jaillite with a limit weighing 7.61 for a total of 11.60 lbs, followed by Pete Potter with a total of 10.60 lbs. good enough for fourth place.

Next month the Hawg Hunters journey to the Apalachicola River for our annual fish-off. This fishery has produced some great results in the past and should be an excellent tournament. Everyone needs to make plans now to attend.
A Big Thank You to Jere for taking up the slack as Secretary during Marc's absence from so many tournaments this year!!
